Global Travel Retail

Confectionery is the third most important category in Travel Retail. Moreover, year after year the category growth has been outperforming total travel retail significantly. In 2008 confectionery reached a new milestone when the category went on to outgrow the cigarette category. The global consumption per capita of chocolate and sugar confectionery is almost equal. This, however, is not equally represented in duty free shops throughout the world. We strongly believe that a portfolio that more adequately represents the worldwide customer consumption of confectionery, would greatly fuel further category growth.

Perfetti Van Melle is a privately owned company that manufactures and distributes candy and chewing gum in over 130 countries worldwide. Today, Perfetti Van Melle is ranked as the third largest sugar confectionery/chewing gum processing company in the world. At PVM GTR our focus is on 2 of the few truly global brands in sugar confectionery and chewing gum: Mentos and Chupa Chups. All of our products are exclusive for the travel retail market: the Mentos Jumboroll and Chupa Chups Mega Chups our icons. Many major travel retail operators are amongst our customers who have been able to follow our growth over the past few years: We are pro-actively working to meet the needs yet to come. We have major plans in place for 2010 that we know will undoubtedly help boost business. We have designed exciting new displays, which will increase visibility in stores tremendously for both our focus brands Mentos and Chupa Chups. Our focus is on innovation and we will be presenting two major innovative new concepts for our icon brands Mentos and Chupa Chups.

MENTOS
Perfetti Van Melle Global Travel Retail produces ‘fresh makers’ for young and old in a wide variety of delicious flavors and shapes. In our Mentos range, we carry two concepts: 1) Mentos dragées. For generations, Mentos has been the freshest dragée around and has been renowned for its unique chewy texture. This irresistible pastille is based on an innovative concept: when you eat a Mentos, it’s: ‘crunchy and smooth outside, soft and remarkably chewy inside’. 
Mentos is not only available in mint flavor but also comes in a large variety of fruity flavors. Mentos has been a cult among youngsters for entire generations and has become the most innovative, unconventional brand in terms of product concepts, packaging and flavors. 2) Mentos Chewing Gum. After delighting consumers for decades with its unique chewy pastille, Mentos discovered new paths to spread its freshness and is now also available for chewing gum devotees. Different concepts, all sugar free, available in a wide range of flavors, shapes and packagings. Innovative packaging is at the core of our success. Now we have added a new design to our range: convenient multi-packs (4 and 8 pack) with a handy eurolock system for easy storage.

CHUPA CHUPS
Chupa Chups is the world’s number 1 lollipop. Cavemen, who licked honey from a stick, were the first people to eat lollipop-like sweets. Lollipops as we know them now, were first created in 1958. Today, they come in a wide variety of delicious flavors such as Fruit, Cola and Yoghurt. Continuously striving for consumer satisfaction and a high level of quality, our new and intriguing tastes continue to be the key elements for the success of this renowned brand. In travel retail we have an exclusive Chupa Chups portfolio. Many of our Chupa Chups products are very popular with kids thanks to the fun kid’s gift packaging. Chupa Chups believes in having serious fun. Famous for our lollies, we have now added a variety of soft candies to our Chupa Chups product range. Great tasting new flavors, delightful to chew and exciting thanks to their delicious soft filled centers for the choc filled and fruit filled varieties and tasty chewiness for the fruit duos varieties. Candy is the largest segment in sugar confectionery although its availability in travel retail is limited. The worldwide success of the Chupa Chups candies in a number of domestic markets has lead us to believe that the time is ripe to launch this wonderful new product in the world of Travel Retail. We are confident travelers around the globe will receive it just as successfully. Chupa Chups believes in having serious fun.
